Lia has a strong gift, able to both sense other's emotions but seperate it from her mind so it doesn't overwhelm her. In the back of her mind all the emotions around her are swirling, and when any one emotion becomes particularly strong or is strange Lia hones in on it and can then have a vague indication of why they feel that way. She can also make that emotion weaker or stronger in a person, but she cannot make them feel an emotion they aren't feeling.

Personality:

Lia is quite arrogant. She thinks that because she's mastered her gift and these kids haven't, and don't even realize it, makes her better and worthy of her freedom. She doesn't think the kids have the right to choose their future. Only those that are like her and go above and beyond to earn their own freedom of choice deserve it.

Lia is a manipulative cretin. She sees what those around her feel and uses it to her best advantage without a care in the world for them. If she thought of them as real humans and not just tools she would be overwhelmed, just like she had been while at the Institute. Only by separating herself and using her "tools" viciously and unconcernedly could she bear to withstand other people's company. And she is very vicious in her tactics.

She has a blazing personality that leaves no room for arguments, and along with her power her voice is hypnotic and she delves deep into every word. It gives the impression she thought long and hard about what she says and knows much more than she really does about whatever subject it is.

Appearance:

Lia has long bleached blonde hair with striking silver highlights that haven't been redone in a while. She wears slim sunglasses as often as she can. In her therapy sessions Lia always fiddles with them while leaning forward, to give a more personal effect. She has dark green eyes naturally, but she wears bright blue colored contacts that have subtle silver streaks in them to give them spark. Her hair is usually pulled back with bangs and a messy bun. Her bangs reach down to frame her face, and she wears white gloves. When in her therapy sessions, however, she takes off the gloves. She has manicured nails and where’s light amounts of makeup.

Lia usually wears a lab coat and carries her clipboard with her everywhere, to scribble notes of kid’s emotions at different times throughout the day so that she can better predict what to “teach” them next in therapy.

History:

She is a rarity; one of the few kids that graduated from the Institute and didn't go on to be a weapon. She had controlled her power in the midst of it all, and regained sight of who she is, and what she is not (insane). In doing so, and because she is naturally arrogant and uncaring of other's positions (strange for an empath), she made herself the perfect therapist for the children.

She was reared in the witness protection program, thanks to her father’s previous mafia career. He turned against them and went to the FBI, and ever since then (before Lia’s birth) they have been in the witness protection program.

Lia’s mother was always sickly, and because they moved so much her health continued to fail. Lia had an older brother, but he was retarded, and due to her mother’s health and her father always gone for work it fell to Lia to care for him.

Lia loved Jeff, but she hated being responsible for him. It prevented her from making friends at any of the schools they went to, not that it mattered much, since they rarely stayed in any one place long enough to make friends. Even though they were supposed to try and settle down, her father continued to make them move, always paranoid his old buddies were hunting him down.

One day Lia, her mother, and Jeff went on a train ride to visit the zoo in a big city not too far away. When they got there Lia went off on her own, leaving her mother to care for Jeff.

Lia never saw her mother or Jeff again. It remains a mystery to this day what happened to them. When her father found out what happened, he went insane and was sent to an asylum. Lia was also in a brief period of insanity following his outburst, a direct result of her empathy and her father’s madness. When she awoke from the daze her father’s insanity had placed on her she was in the walls of Hollowcove. Ever since then she has placed a hard block on emotions having any effect on her.
