I laughed at his comment. He was right. There was probably little I could do to drive him nuts. Then again, I was special. I might be able to pull it off. I shivered some when he stepped closer; we were almost shoulder to shoulder. It was odd, but I liked the closeness.

What happened next was unexpected. I don't even remember how it came out. There wasn't any sort of reason for it to pop out of my mouth, but it did. "Alec, would you consider...maybe being my boyfriend?" Just like that. Completely out of the blue. And it wasn't as awkward as I expected. It just popped out. I didn't even blush.

BOYFRIEND?!

My eyes widened in shock and my smile disappeared. Where did this come from? I hardly expected it. Honestly, I could hear and feel my heart flutter. She... I.... What?! I was completely confused. Say yes! exclaimed a voice within my head. Say yes, you idiot! I kept my mouth shut, just staring at her with wide eyes.

"Erhm.. Yes, of course?" I raised my eyebrows. How do you reply to that? Sure. That just doesn't sound right... I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. If she wanted to catch me off guard, she did it pretty dang well. I was totally shocked.

He just stared for a bit, and when he finally spoke, it wasn't really a statement. It was like he was asking if that was the answer I wanted. It didn't sit well with me and I sighed, looking away. "I shouldn't have asked. Sorry for catching you off guard." I was quiet. His reaction disappointed me. I know we hadn't exactly known each other for all that long, but I was comfortable with him. I talked to him. It wasn't as if we were going to have much luck with anyone else. I twitched slightly, kicking the floor some. I just wanted him to say yes, instead of making it sound like the black plague. Dating could just be a close friendship. We weren't going to get anywhere with it as long as we were here, anyways. It didn't matter! We could date and still be friends.

I gritted my teeth, turning my head to look at the floor. Why did she..? Ugh! Okay, maybe being her boyfriend won't hurt me. She just shocked me, that's all. "Yes, Ainslie... I'll be your boyfriend," I said quietly, but confidently. There had to be some reason for her to just blurt out a question like that.

I knew it was coming, but it still shocked me. Boyfriend. The word sounded strange in my head, but made me smile anyways. I took his hand slowly, keeping it loose. I wasn't sure what was next. I'd never had a boyfriend. "I don't know what's next." I sighed. There wasn't any room for a relationship here. Not with the teachers watching. It was a strange place to gain a first time boyfriend. But it'd be an interesting story to tell my kids if I ever had any. I felt warm and cheery, despite the chill that ran down me.

I feel happy.

I smiled at her, despite the tightening in my stomach. I squeezed her hand reassuringly. "No idea. I think I'd enjoy going outside for a few minutes." I raised my eyebrows at her. I'm sort of surprised she would even want to be around a guy after what her father did... Maybe that's why she cringed yesterday in the library. "But this doesn't change the fact that I will still use the notebook... Right?" I chuckled.

I smiled. Outside sounded nice. "I don't care if you'd prefer the notebook. Maybe we can go outside tomorrow. I'd like some air. I don't get out of the building much." My smile got bigger at the thought of fresh air. I laughed, imagining Alec getting married and still using that notebook to talk. It was an entertaining thought, but I couldn't judge. I doubted I'd ever start talking to everyone myself.

I mean today...

"Tomorrow? I mean today." I said, chuckling. I could use the fresh air now. I just needed to feel the wind in my hair. I laced my fingers with hers and brought her hand up and kissed it lightly like a gentleman.

My face went hot when I felt his lips on my hand. It was a different experience being kissed than kissing someone. I coughed. "Oh. Well, I guess we could. It's just...a little cold, don't you think?" I wasn't sure I wanted to go outside just now. I was comfortable where we were. Couldn't we just go tomorrow? It'd be easier. I wouldn't have to disrupt my comfort.

Bah, tomorrow...

I looked at her for a moment and dropped her hand, mine still laced in hers. "We'll go tomorrow then--after class, I'm expecting... Oh, joy. Mondays." My voice became a low growl. I looked up at her and smiled. "So what do you want to do right now? Just hang on the wall like a wall flower, run around the gym like crazy people, or we could go eat." I shrugged. You could say I was in a lighter mood.

I felt bad pushing him into agreement, but I was relieved. He asked what to do next and I sat. "I feel like relaxing." I stated, smiling up at him. I hadn't let go of his hand yet, which looked strange from my position, since I had to keep my arm up towards him.

Relaxing....

Relaxing, huh? I haven't truly relaxed since I got here. I've been on the verge of yelling my head off. Now she suggest relaxing and I just sat next to her, letting out a yawn. "Does relaxing mean no talking, because I'll fall asleep." I murmured, eyes half way shut. Don't ask me why there's a sudden urge to sleep when I can never sleep when the time comes. She just mentioned the word and I automatically felt relaxed. Maybe it was me absorbing her emotions again... I kept hold of her hand, smiling slightly.

I laughed softly. "If you want it to. I don't mind if you take a nap." I could use a break myself, I was sure. I watched him and a sudden urge came over me. I pulled my sleeve down over my hand and started to wipe that annoying eyeliner away, frowning some.

Don't ruin the image!!!

I almost fell asleep until I felt a cloth against my eye. Alarmed, I slapped the arm away, but knowing it was Ainslie, I didn't hit that hard. "Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey! Don't ruin the image, please!" I exclaimed. I had an urge to run to the bathroom and fix it quickly. I'm sure one on my eyes made me look sickeningly tired. "What as that for?" I furrowed my eyebrows and frowned. Plus, she was ruining her shirt. This stuff doesn't wash off clothes easily.

I scowled at being smack away and crossed my arms. "I think makeup looks bad on anyone." I pursed my lips, annoyed that he had stopped me. But whatever. It was his face. Let him wear that nasty grease if he wanted to. It wasn't like I had to just because he wanted to look a certain way. I crossed my legs, fixing my skirt and yawning a bit myself. Damn facial recogniztion was ruining America.
