Personality:
Darren is usually fairly quiet, and he speaks the most when he's having a vision. He unconsciously starts saying what he hears in the vision. He can be talkative as well, all depending on how many visions he's had that day and what they were. Normally they are quite horrific and long, due to him being at an institute where they specialize in driving muddled psychics insane. And because they're so horrific they shut his mouth; how could he focus on anything resembling normalcy like making friends when he keeps seeing things that aren't there and has to be afraid every moment of showing the others how insane he really is? He's always worried about because he believes that if he's too insane and the institute realizes that, they'll think he'll never be able to go to normal society and stop letting him learn things and send him back to the asylum.Appearance:
But then there are the times where he hasn't seen too much in a day and he feels happy for some reason, so he'll be a bit more chatty. He also becomes awkward around most people if he's seen anything of them and knows something he shouldn't. But his absolute worst fear is for someone to call him insane. When the words leave a person's mouth and they are addressing him, he starts shaking and losing all feeling. He got traumatized as a kid by his classmates, and they called him insane all the time, so now when he hears that he automatically thinks of his childhood and can't move or speak.
Darren is mexican-american, with medium tanned skin and dark black hair. His eyes are a deep brown, almost black but not quite. He is skinny and slightly shorter than average height. He is handsome enough to get attention, but he wouldn't by most standards be the cutest guy in his grade, and certainly not the whole institute. He has long hair for a guy; it reaches down to his shoulders so he can cover his scar.History:
Like most kids at the Institute, Darren has a haggard look and almost always has bags under his eyes. He gazes off into the distance whenever he isn't talking directly to someone, and he has the habit of looking through a person while they talk to him. He has an intense gaze most of the time, and has a talent at making people uncomfortable with his stare in just moments. He has a scar behind his neck from an accident with a knife. When he was younger and couldn't see over the counter yet Darren reached for a fork but instead touched a sharp steak knife. His power overwhelmed him in that moment and all he could feel was the knife slicing things, as if he was the knife. He fell down, and in the process dragged the knife off the counter. It cut him behind his neck before hitting the ground, but didn't damage him at all besides the scar.
Darren has been at the institute since he was twelve, and before that he was homeschooled, bordering on being sent to a mental institution. He has never been normal, and his parents resent the fact. His mom especially always makes him do better and not talk at all if he's going to talk insanity. Darren's dad was always more supportive than his mom. His dad would be very nice all the times he was normal, and he certainly helped draw out those normal times just as much as his mom sent them away. But when he went on his crazy vision sprees his dad would get a vacant look and walk away, and when he came to he'd see his dad watching television and Darren's mom would come and scold him.RP Example:
Whenever he went to normal school, which he did from he was five until nine, he would get bullied unceasingly. Because he could see the pasts of objects, he would often get kids in trouble by telling the teacher what he saw in his vision. Some of his teachers didn't believe him, some did, but whatever happened to the bullies didn't matter, because they always knew he told on them. And in a little kid's eyes, nothing was worse than a tale-teller who knew more than he should.
So he got beat up almost daily by the bullies, but he could never defend himself or run away because once they would do something like throw a rock at him he'd see a vision and lose all control.
The day he left for the institute Darren had a little while alone with his dad after his mom left. His dad took that opportunity to tell him how disappointed he was in him that Darren would need to go to such a school, and how that if Darren ever could be normal he still wouldn't be welcome back. He promised that he'd always love Darren, but always from afar. It was too late to fix Darren in his view, he told Darren, but that it was time for him and his wife to move on from Darren and just raise their younger son, Darren's brother Jack.
What am I doing? Darren thought as he stared at the pond. All I'm doing is existing, and that's enough for me. He answered herself sharply and silently. He stood and rummaged around through his bag before bringing out what he was looking for. He threw a piece of the bread he brought especially for this out into the water. A second or two later, a fish broke the surface of the water as it swallowed the bread piece whole. In a minute, the slice of bread he brought was scattered in pieces over the portion of the lake where he was. One of the many ducks swam over and ate a bit of the bread. Darren resisted the urge to laugh as the duck and one of the fish went for the same piece of bread. The duck won, and honked in victory. Darren smiled as other ducks swam over to snack on his gift.Image URL: frichan.deviantart.com/art/Sk8ter-boy-123445823
