Age: 63
Gender: Male
Position: Teacher
Gift: Negator/Absorber
Gift Specification:
Malakai has no powers of his own, but he can negate the powers of people in his vicinity, and, if he chooses to do so, may selectively take the power of one person, temporarily; this is a specialized formulation of his usual ability, which is to negate/absorb the traits of others, such as physical strength, intelligence, artistic ability, musical talent, etc; however, during his time at the Institute, this part of his ability has gone neglected in his dealings with the students. As a result, this facet of his power is seldom, if ever, used.Personality:
Malakai is meticulous and orderly; a deceiver by nature. He is brutally far-sighted, always working to achieve some greater end; although he is a brilliant mind, ergo his employment at the Institute, he is quite selfish, willing to use both students and other teachers as a means to an end.Appearance:
Malakai is very zero-tolerance for all manner of unsavory behavior, adopting an all-or-nothing policy; he is unwilling to compromise to any degree; this quality, at least, makes him a great teacher and a capable therapist; unfortunately, as a human being, he is a bit substandard, and very difficult to get along with.
Perhaps his worst fault is his intellectual supremacism; he absolutely cannot stand mentally inferior people; his motto is, A dumb person is like no person at all. This is his biggest obstacle when working with students.
Malakai is slightly under 6 feet tall, around 5'10 or 5'11; he's quite skinny, but not to the point of being emaciated; he maintains a very minimal diet. While alive and well, his skin is slightly yellowed, as if to signal the beginning of premature necrosis.History:
He has faded brown hair which shows a lot of light-to-medium gray underneath the surface; his hair is generally kept between 2 to 2 1/2 inches long, and is allowed to lay flat nearly all of the time.
His eyes are a light brown with a tinge of gray here and there; a noticeable feature about his eyes is the light blue ring around the edge of the iris; if he weren't as aged as he was, he would be quite handsome due solely to this feature.
His dress is very professional and very neat, usually consisting of well-pressed slacks (black, of course), a buttoned, collared shirt (lightly starched), and a tie reflecting his mood at the beginning of the day; never particularly exciting, and most often is a drab solid color, such as black, gray, or dark reds and blues; on rare occasions, his tie may have an exciting set of stripes, or an elegant design; on those days, he usually has a black suit jacket to accompany it.
The only odd thing about Malakai's appearance is his watch; it's very nice, a shiny, well-kept gold; the problem is that it doesn't work; when asked for the reason he changes the subject, and, when pressed on the issue, he promptly ends the conversation and cuts the meeting short.
Malakai's life is truly unremarkable; from a young age, he was interested in only one thing: knowledge. He pursued success in school and study at the expense of social success; among his peers, he was always viewed as the intellectual bookworm; others' attitudes towards Malakai changed gradually, from mockery and derision to malice and contempt; these attitudes changed with Malakai himself, who gradually grew from the shy, socially inept schoolboy to the arrogant, brainy adult; he put himself in a superior position over others, and took particular delight in showing others the error of their ways; it was his belief that the greatest victory was earned not by violence and bloodshed, but rather, by making someone see his way of thinking, and using their perceived strengths against them.RP Example:
As time passed, Malakai tried to study specific disciplines; in particular, he enjoyed studying the mind, and, on the side, he loved language, writing, and speaking.
These two talents combined themselves, as Malakai learned not only the ways to influence and understand the human mind, but could use writing and speaking to steer people in his desired direction.
Eventually, his studies on the human psyche and manipulation thereof garnered the contract proposed by the Hollowcove Institute; wanting to further his study, and perhaps delight in correcting the horrendous flaws of the Institute's young, but unstable residents, although he generally sees this part of his job as grueling and pointless.
Malakai was walking down one of the many nondescript hallways, holding a pen and a clipboard. He had tasked himself with assigning disciplinary action against an unruly student. As much as he liked the facilities and study offered by Hollowcove, he absolutely detested the conditions under which he was forced to work. There was a point where something was simply too broken to fix; it was clear that none of these kids were 'all there' mentally, and he did not want to have to pick up the pieces.Image URL:
He reminded himself, though, that he was the one who originally accepted the job; and at least he had a solid tenure, and acceptable pay; not to mention the top-notch scientific equipment, and more-than-adequate library; as it stood, every situation had its PROs and CONs; two sides to every coin, he said to himself.
The student with whom he was currently working was being scheduled for temporary isolation; although he was being punished for his wrongdoing, he was far better than many of the kids that Malakai had previously worked with; this was only his first offense after a couple of years with the Institute; he liked this child more than most of the others, as he shared Malakai's love of calm, peace, and order.
Thank goodness, this place isn't a complete loss, he thought with a small degree of satisfaction.
