DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS. → a. temporary confinement Temporary confinement is when a student is removed of privelages including the companionship of peers and faculty. Students whose actions have warranted the need for temporary confinement will be put in isolation for a period not to exceed twenty four hours. Students will be issued meals by assigned teachers and are required to eat in the isolation block.
→ b. use of physical restraint Physical restraint is the action of limiting or entirely prohibiting mobility to modify an unacceptable behavior pattern. This form of restraint is used when the student is proving to be a danger to self and/or others. Hollowcove's policy on physical restraint is that two or more staff members may assist in restraining a student to lessen the possibility of injury to self or others. If only one faculty member is present, he or she may attempt to hold or pin the student until help arrives to assist. This punishment can be used along with chemical restraint if the situation calls for it.
→ c. use of chemical restraint The use of a chemical restraint may be used when a student cannot control themselves and are becoming a danger to self and/or others. A chemical restraint is the use of medication to block, cancel out, or put an immediate halt to severe, undesired or uncontrollable behavioral symptoms. Medicaion may also be used to regulate or control certain behaviors.
→ d. isolation Isolation is the most severe form of confinement. It is only used when all other correctional methods have failed. The student will be removed from the general populous for the amount of time determined by the teacher in charge. Meals and changes of clothes will be delivered at regular times by the assigned teacher and medical staff. Students in isolation will return to the general population only when the medical staff approves them for release; when they are certain the student will prove no danger to their peers or when they are positive that the student is able to handle their classes again.
