~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~ I sighed silently. I still didn't get it, but I didn't want to push the issue anymore. I didn't want to risk making him angry or upset. That wouldn't end well. I pushed the notebook onto the ground, sratching my arm while I thought. It wouldn't hurt any. The ideas bounced around in my brain while I thought of a 'game plan'. I hadn't exploded into flames yet and we'd touched already. It wouldn't be too bad. It was just a hug. I leaned over and wrapped my arms around him tightly, pressing my check against his chest.

She put the notebook on the ground and I expected her to speak. However, she put her arms around me, pressing her cheek to my chest. I looked down at her shocked. Yeah, I know, I get shocked a lot. Get over it. I moved my arms and put them around her, sighing happily. I half closed my eyes, smelling that sweet shampoo again. She smelled pretty and she looked pretty. What can I say? She's a keeper. I chuckled a little, not able to stop the next four words that spilled out of my mouth.
"I love you, Ainslie."

~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~ The sentence came as a shock and I sat up immediately, pale and obviously nervous. We had just met! This was a phenomenon that I wasn't used to at all. My mother had barely told me she loved me when I lived with her and suddenly this boy I had just met was saying it out of the blue, just like that. I didn't mean to 'overreact', it was just a shock. The confusion came back and I started to feel ill, trying to relax my breathing.

Something cold and wet made its way into my hand and I looked down to see my hands digging into the dirt, prying the grass out. The loud tear of the grass filled my ears and I squeezed my eyes shut. I wished those words would go away. "I screwed up... Maybe I should go before something really bad happens..." I muttered to myself. I wouldn't be surprised if Ainslie had heard it--she was right next to me. I slammed my head on the tree and scrunched up my face like I was in immense pain. Well, I sort of was.

~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~ I was shocked when he slammed his head into the tree and what came out of my mouth was loud and surprising to me. "ALEXANDER!" The statement was a chastising one, and an upset one. How could he do that?! With me sitting right there?! I hadn't said he had done anything bad, I was just trying to process the information. Nothing else came out of me as I went over to him, putting his head on my lap to look at where it had hit the tree. I knew my eyes were filled with the anger and frustration that was rising up in me. That was stupid of him to do.

I scrunched up my face more until I heard the girl next to me scream my real name. Hey, did I tell her my real name? I blinked my eyes open in time to see her move me so my head was in her lap and she was looking at my head. I sucked in some air as my eyes started to sting with tears. I don't cry, thank you. I blinked the tears away. "AINSLIE!" I hissed in response of my name. I really didn't feel like screaming her name as she did with mine. The birds flew out of the trees and we got rude looks from nearby people. Now I could feel that headache appear into my head. I let out a silent groan, which sounded a lot like a whimper.

~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~ I held in the irriation that started to bubble up. I really didn't want this time to end up like the others, but it looked like it was going to. I could feel tears welling up in my eyes and I tried to keep them back. I swallowed hard. "That was stupid," I whispered, shifting him some. I felt bad that it had turned so badly. Nothing you do is ever good. The sentence made sense to me. This was awful. This whole relationship was awful. It made my stomach churn. I wanted to throw up, but I tried to ignore it, sniffling slightly and sitting more comfortably.

Man, I didn't want this day to turn out like the others! The only thing I could think of is close contact, which I heard girls liked, but Ainslie was completely different. I didn't know what to do. One small thing could set her off and she'd be running to her dorm. I most definitely did not want that. I heard her comment and then I heard her sniffle. Right now, I wanted to put both hands on either side of her face and tell her everything's alright. But, her being Ainslie, I didn't know if she'd like the contact or not. I just wanted to roll around and scream my head off. This was too frustrating. Was every relationship like this? I squeezed my eyes shut again, allowing the silence to engulf us. I kept my head in her lap since it was so comfortable.
I opened my eyes to look up at her. I smiled encouragingly. "I have to agree on that one. Please, just smile?" I raised my eyebrows at her and pushed out my bottom lip. I don't beg, but I just wanted to make sure everything was okay. I didn't want her running off just so this could get worse. I wanted everything to be okay.

~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~ My mind blanked and I tried to think of what to do. What was it guys liked? Sex. That's all that I could think of, but Alec didn't seem the type to go for that and I sure wasn't about to go out and bring that topic up. I chewed on the inside of my cheek and looked up, contemplating. Then I came to a conclusion. I leaned down and gave him a real kiss. One on the lips. And instead of a peck, I let this one linger. It was awkward, and I knew it wasn't great, but it was something. I didn't feel like talking and I hoped this would say that I wanted things to be okay between us. Having him as a friend was important to me. I didn't want to let that go.

She looked up for a while, and when I thought she wouldn't give me a smile, she bent down and kissed me. My heart skipped beats and every muscle in my body went rigid. This was... totally unexpected. I breathed deeply through my nose, feeling heat rise to my face and I felt my muscles just melt. I brought my hand up to her cheek. Of course, if I opened my eyes, I would see her neck and maybe her hair. So, my hand was a little backwards--heading to her neck. I pushed my head up slightly, deepening it. I didn't care if it was awkward, it was the thought that counts. Hah! Beat that! A girl kissed me!

I'd end up flustered, he'd apologize, I'd get angry and it'd end abruptly. Plus, I wasn't sure that I was ready to really kiss someone. A small, awkward pre-teen kiss was fine. A real, full-blown teenage kiss was out of my league. For now. I sighed. "Do you need an Advil or something?" I was still concerned. He had hit his head pretty hard.

I blinked my eyes open, seeing that everything was out of focus. My eyelids felt heavy and my hand slowly dropped to my side. I hadn't noticed I wasn't breathing until my lungs started to burn. At this moment, I felt underwater, with my whole body pounding like it was a heart. I sucked in some air and let it out staggeringly. I felt myself resurface right when she started to talk. My head was pounding with an immense force, but I ignored it. I felt my feet hit the ground and I heard the thump they made. I jolted up, instantly regretting it. Even though I could use the Advil, I didn't want to leave. I liked it out here. Everything was still blurry and it started to spin. I really hoped I wouldn't pass out right now. I blinked several times and realized she had asked a question. "N-No, I'm f-f-fine." I stuttered, looking at her. Man! That was completely unexpected!

I just hoped he didn't have a brain aneurism. I didn't want him to pass out either. "Are you sure, Alec? I think you should..." I could try anyways. He owed me something. Then again, I owed him a lot for the past few days. I sighed, rubbing my eyes.

I curled up into a sitting position, but I was crunched up together. I dug my head into my knees and tried to calm down. Right now, I could feel everyone's emotions. I could feel anger, love, pity, sympathy, happiness, loneliness. There were so much more that I couldn't pinpoint. Normally, I can only sense the emotions of the person in front of me, but right now, everyone was swelling through me. My heart sped up and my chest started to burn with an intensity that would make the sun feel like ice. I took in a breath, wincing. My head swirled and throbbed. I felt like I was going to explode on everyone and everything. I hadn't noticed the groan coming from me. I pulled my head up and opened my eyes. Bile quickly rose to my throat and I turned my head to vomit on the grass. "Advil.. Icepack... Hurry..." I grumbled, taking in sharp breaths. I scooted away from the smelling pile on the ground. Right now, I wanted to fall to the ground and scream and writhe in pain. Everything hurt!

~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~ I bolted away to go to the infirmary, riffling through things to get him painkillers and an ice pack. I knew where things were, even though I wasn't supposed to. I had been there enough for my headaches. It took a few minutes, and every second that ticked by made the panic that was filling my chest rise. I hoped he was alright when I got back outside, hurrying over to him and tearing open the package of pills.
